A brand-new BBC Two series is offering an exclusive glimpse into the fast-paced, high-pressure world of estate agents. Under Offer: Estate Agents On The Job follows 11 property professionals from across the UK as they navigate the challenges of buying and selling homes. The six-part series promises to show the highs, the lows, and everything in between.
A showcase of diverse property markets
From luxury London mansions to budget-friendly auctions, the programme highlights just how varied the UK property market is.
High-end agent Gary Hersham operates in some of London’s most exclusive postcodes, with his latest instruction being a staggering £39 million townhouse in Mayfair. Complete with eight bathrooms, a private gym, and a cinema, it’s a world away from the market that Lynne Blaney operates in up north. In Spennymoor, County Durham, she deals with homes that can start at auction for as little as £1.
Meanwhile, in Exeter, Devon, rookie agent Lewis Rossiter is juggling both personal and professional pressures—his wife is expecting a baby, and he’s under pressure from a client who wants her home sold urgently.
The reality of property negotiations
In Birmingham, veteran agent Dave Simms faces a competitive battle as two downsizing couples fight over the same bungalow. These high-stakes moments show just how intense the property game can be, with agents often caught between conflicting client demands.
Commissioned by Alison Kirkham, Head of Commissioning for Factual Features & Formats at the BBC, the series was filmed between June 2013 and January 2014 by independent production company betty. Annabel Hobley served as executive producer, while Simon Draper took on the role of series producer.
Why this series matters to estate agents
Speaking about the new series, Alison Kirkham said: “Estate agents are irresistibly watchable characters. In this series, they offer fascinating insights into Britain’s extraordinarily varied property market. From multi-million-pound houses through to repossessed homes auctioned with a starting price of just a pound. Along the way, the audience can pick up insider tips on how best to buy and sell their own homes.”
For UK letting agents, the series is an opportunity to showcase the expertise, negotiation skills, and resilience required to succeed in the industry. The profession is often misunderstood, but Under Offer: Estate Agents On The Job puts a spotlight on the dedication and hard work involved. As property transactions become more complex, the role of an experienced agent has never been more crucial. Could this series help shift perceptions and highlight the indispensable role letting agents play in the housing market?
